Rare earth magnet as for recovering dropped parts worked for me (non-working end of my scribe has one, about 6mm dia). Stuck the nut on the magnet, inserted it in the bracket to line-up with the cross hole, used one of the longer M3’s to pull it into place.

The screws called-out as M5x40 are not all M5x40, the outer ones are M6 & do not need to be removed.
Keeping the inner screws fully seated in their counterbores will avoid the 'opportunity' to re-stack all of the bearings & spacers ;-)
